Looker Studio Connectors Overview

Learn how to use CountingKit's Looker Studio connectors to create powerful dashboards with your Xero and QuickBooks accounting data.

What are Looker Studio Connectors?

How Looker Studio Connectors Work

Our Looker Studio connectors work by providing a direct API connection between your accounting data sources and Looker Studio. Here's how the process works:

1

Connect Your Data Source

First, you need to connect your accounting platform (Xero or QuickBooks) to your CountingKit account. This establishes the data connection and authentication.

2

Generate API Key

Create an API key in your CountingKit account settings. This key authenticates your Looker Studio connector requests and ensures secure access to your data.

3

Install Connector in Looker Studio

Use the connector installation link from your CountingKit dashboard to add the connector to your Looker Studio account. Enter your API key when prompted.

4

Configure Data Source

In Looker Studio, select your account, choose the data type you want to visualize, set your date range, and select the fields you need for your dashboard.

5

Build Your Dashboard

Create charts, tables, and visualizations using your accounting data. The connector provides real-time access to your data, so your dashboards stay up-to-date automatically.

Prerequisites

Before using CountingKit's Looker Studio connectors, make sure you have:

  • A CountingKit account with an active subscription
  • Connected your accounting platform account (Xero or QuickBooks) to CountingKit
  • A Google account with access to Looker Studio
  • Admin or editor permissions in Looker Studio to create new data sources
  • Generated an API key from your CountingKit account settings

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

Authentication Errors

If you're getting authentication errors:

  • Verify your API key is correct and hasn't expired
  • Make sure your CountingKit account is active and in good standing
  • Check that your marketing platform connection is still valid
  • Try regenerating your API key if the issue persists

No Data Available

If your connector shows no data:

  • Verify that your accounting platform account has data for the selected date range
  • Check that you have the necessary permissions to access the data
  • Ensure your accounting platform connection is active and working
  • Try selecting a different date range or data type

Performance Issues

If your connector is slow or timing out:

  • Reduce the date range to limit the amount of data being fetched
  • Select fewer fields/columns to reduce data transfer
  • Check if your accounting platform's API is experiencing issues
  • Contact support if the issue persists
